Coax cable Description

The information below is a review of available cable and
recommended service length.
All cables require the appropriate connector to fit its diameter.
Some popular connector types: BNC, F, FME, N, SMA, SMB, TNC, UHF, Mini-UHF etc..
This is only abbreviated information and does not detail specifications on
materials, velocity factors, capacitance, etc.
For simplicity, loss factors (attenuation) are listed only for 900mHz and per
100 FT of length.
Other loss factors for wanted frequency of operation can be calculated by simple
division or multiplication which results close to the actual loss figure needed.
Note: for 1900mHz PCS band, reduce recommended length listed by 40%. Loss factor
is x1.8 approximately.
Notes: Stranded center conductors are more flexible, used for cables where
movement will take place.
But they are harder for field installers to work with attaching connectors.
Solid center conductors make for stiffer cables. Used where cable will not be
subjected to repeated manual
movement of use. PE jackets are stiffer and extra tough for abrasion and
puncture resistance. |
